Travel Communication

Sometimes travel has the tendency to isolate you from news and events. When you are away for long periods of time, it is comforting to stay informed and know about what is happening elsewhere in the world, particularly back at home. In our modern world, staying in contact with family and loved ones and keeping apprised of recent news events is not very difficult.

Making international telephone calls is a lot easier than most people think. But there are a few important things to know about using the phone and making calls within (and to) foreign countries. To dial internationally you will key in an international access number (this tells the telephone company that you are making an international, as opposed to a local, telephone call). Then you will dial the country code (the code for the country you are calling to). Next is the city code (for the city you are calling to) and, finally, the phone number of the person or place you are trying to talk to. In a matter of seconds, you can be talking to someone on the other side of the world!

International Phone Codes
We provide a list of the country codes (the numbers needed to dial into a particular country) and the international access numbers (used to access international phone lines and dial out of a country). The country codes remain the same no matter where in the world you are dialing from.

The wide-spread availability of internet access makes keeping in touch with friends and family around the world extremely fast and convenient. Unless you are traveling in a very remote or under-developed country or region, you are bound to have access to a computer with internet capabilities, whether it's at a library, a hostel, a university, a bookstore or an internet caf.
